by Jeff Olsen The Roseau County Museum has had some colorful exhibits. Maybe one of the best is the pair of jeans worn by Greenbush teenager Georgine Stanislawski. "Lightning struck the house. It electrified the metal in the house," said Britt Dahl, the director, adding that the pants' metal button contacted the metal strip on the countertop. "It blew her across the kitchen and shredded her jeans. I don't know when we received them for an exhibit. The accident happened in 1947." Georgine...

by Laurel Latham Lori Thompson begins decorating for the Christmas holiday as soon as the last of the trick-or-treaters have made their rounds on October 31st. "It takes four days for all the Christmas decorations to go up," reported Lori. "My husband helps me put everything up. He loves Christmas as much as I do! Once the house is decorated, we begin watching Hallmark movies." Rocky and Lori's home resembles a gorgeous Christmas magazine spread. Every room is decked out in holiday cheer. Even...

Submitted by Sarah Picard The Rams wrapped up their 2025 football season with a fun night of awards, food and memories with the football families. This year's record did not turn out the way the Rams had hoped, but they worked hard and never gave up. A quote heard earlier this season, "Rome was not built in a day". Take all the progress and all the positives from the year and roll that into next year. Roseau Football is going in the right direction. Strong brotherhood, hard work ethics and...
Submitted by Gregg Iverson A young team and some new faces is how one would best describe this year’s varsity boys’ basketball team. There are five seniors on this year’s squad, one of which is Landon Baumgartner, who transitioned from the hockey ranks and slapping the puck around, to bouncing an orange ball and putting it in the basket. Welcome “Lando!” The four other seniors are Anton Iceman, Isaac Detweiler, Tyler Marvin-Nichols and Aiden Evitts, with Aiden seeing a lot of varsity action last year. Usually if you have a team with...

Now, imagine what the man says to his family - his wife and kids - when he gets home from the office. This is Donald Trump. Throughout the years! "You can grab 'em by the pussy!" Which he was accused of and lost in court. The man now serving as the U.S. president and, hopefully, for no more than eight years, has a reputation for crude and coarse remarks to female journalists as well as to at least one handicapped male reporter. That shows a lack of real class and an inability to show restraint....

It was a nice Thanksgiving with family. The turkey turned out superb and Sarah made the best ham gravy ever! I actually gave my brain a break from the office as much as I could over the long weekend. Sarah and I went out and cut the greenery to make our planters. We didn’t get lost and it was fun and relaxing. Thank you Wayne and Rhonda for letting us help ourselves to some you had! The planters are underway with a few done and a few more to go. Next on our list is getting the Christmas...
It looks like those of us dreaming of a white Christmas will have their dreams come true. After a few more weeks we are officially into winter. If there are so many fun things to do in winter why do so many choose to do them in Arizona? Except for muzzleloading and diehard archery hunters, deer season is over. In the last few weeks nearly thirty-seven million hunters have been carrying some very powerful weapons. Amazingly there were no mass shootings! So far no one has attempted one with a muzzleloader. We are told not to judge Muslims...

Sometimes, we just forget. We forget a birthday, we forget an appointment, we forget to say a word of encouragement meant for another because between here and there so much has happened. Keeping track of it all can be difficult. This can happen in any season of life as what we remember may be here today and gone tomorrow as memory banks shift. As they shift, what was once top priority gets placed down the line to meet the needs of the here and now. After all, supper must be made, groceries forgotten now need purchasing, and what we thought...

When the car wouldn’t go, I remember my older brothers talking about “adjusting the linkage.” Peter slid under the old Galaxy 500 sedan and rattled something around. Soon the car went into gear just fine. I never understood what they were talking about until it happened to me. I was driving my dad’s 1970 Chevy C10. It was a green farm truck with a homebuilt livestock rack, made of white boards; it rattled a lot when driving. It wasn’t an ideal ride for a high school boy trying to...
So, it was 1983, and we were living in a log chalet deep in the woods at about eleven miles north of Wasilla at this time. Our home was actually seven miles off the nearest paved road, and to get there we needed to travel a very tiny one lane road/trail that wrapped around the lakes and hills, with some really steep segments of the road (that were very difficult to get over in the wintertime, when the road was covered with either hard-packed snow, or glare ice)! And sometimes I would find a substantial line of cars a few hundred yards from a...
Chapter 49, Wound Care Chapter 1 Her dear friend moved to a climate of wind and snow. Alpine’s new friend Harriet, (names have been change to protect the innocent), came from a beautiful place with mild weather, a picturesque landscape with an assured lake. It was a place where people would come for vacation or move, it was a transition of different weather, and different people, but the best part of it all was new friends and their smiles. Alpine found out that she and Harriet had much in common. Crafting, and selling at different market...
